How to make meet cookie fries

It’s hard to imagine anything better than a side of french fries. They’re so delicious, that even Simone Biles agrees with this statement. But, for me, a close tie with french fries might be chocolate chip cookies. I just never get tired of trying out new recipes for the classic treat.

If you were to force me to choose between one or the other, I would have a really hard decision to make. So, my answer to chocolate chip cookies versus french fries is simple—just have both!

Thankfully, a current TikTok trend has combined these two beloved comfort foods into one, and I’m not mad about it. Every time I see one of these videos on my feed, I’m immediately intrigued. So, of course, I had to give this viral hack a try to see if it really is possible to turn two amazing foods into something even better.

Cookie Fries Are Tiktok’s Newest Sweet Treat Trend

As we enter fall, it’s time to turn our ovens back on, toss on a fall movie (or Gilmore Girls), and curl up under a blanket.

The only thing this perfect plan needs is a sweet treat. Luckily, TikTok has us covered with an easy, but still creative, dessert to accompany any autumn movie night: cookie fries.

Cookie fries are exactly what they sound like–cookies baked in the shape of french fries, then dipped into melted chocolate or milk. The idea was first posted by TikTok user @taylorjames1992, but has since been recreated by many users on TikTok, including Nestle Toll House itself.

The idea is so simple that I’m shocked it hasn’t gone viral before. Commenters on the original videos have shared their love for the trending recipe. “I’ve never wanted anything more,” one user commented. “I didn’t know I needed this until I saw it,” said another. On another viral video of the recipe, one commenter even said that these fries “would be gone in a minute.”

No wonder people are so excited. I’ve never disliked anything that had cookie dough involved, so I had a feeling this trend would be worth the hype. Regardless, I had to test this trend for myself, just in case.

My Honest Review of the TikTok Cookie Fries

In true easy dessert style, I decided to opt for store-bought Nestle Toll House cookie dough. My first note when making this treat is that turning the cookie dough into fries does add a bit of time to the process. Sometimes, you want to spend more time on making cookies than the pre-sliced packets entail. But, I was curious if the added length of time would be worth it.

To make the cookie fries, I rolled out a pre-sliced block of cookie dough and cut them into small rectangles the size of french fries. While many people who have recreated this recipe use a crinkle fry cutter for their cookie dough, I just cut a straight edge with a normal knife and laid them on a cookie sheet.

I also stored my unbaked cookie fries in the fridge for a few hours before I baked them, with the hopes that it would help my cookie fries keep their shape. Once they were ready, I put them in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.

My result was nearly identical to the Nestle Toll House TikTok video, which makes sense because I used their cookie dough. I wasn’t mad at the result: They were really cute cookies. But, I should have used less dough than I expected for smaller, crispier cookie fries. Despite the time in the freezer, they spread more than I expected.

Of course, they were delicious. But were they worth the extra effort? If you are a fan of cookie edges, I say yes. This pretty much turned all of my cookie dough into a cookie edge, which I know can be a lot of people’s favorite part. Plus, they are very fun to dip into ice creammilkshakes, or just plain ol’ milk.

I’d say this trend is more about the vibes than anything else. While cooking your cookies in fry shapes won’t do anything revolutionary in terms of taste, they are a fun activity to try with friends or on a cozy night in. If you are looking for a fun way to change up your cookie game, I recommend giving it a try. The worst thing that can happen is you have some extra crispy cookies in your house!

I had a lot of fun making my cookie fries, and it really couldn’t have been easier. They felt like a great way to celebrate our (almost) return to fall, without fully committing to a full night of baking.

Now that I have tested out this trend, I’m ready to keep trying new creative things to dip my cookie fries. Typically, I’m a ketchup girl when it comes to french fries, but I think I’m going to need to come up with something different for these particular fries.

To make “meat cookie fries,” you’re essentially combining savory ground meat into a fry-like shape, resembling cookies in some ways but with the taste of meat. Here’s a basic recipe you can follow:

Meat Cookie Fries Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground meat (beef, chicken, turkey, or pork)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for texture)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for brushing
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, dipping sauce (ketchup, BBQ sauce, or mustard)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Meat Mixture:
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well-combined.
  1. Shape the Fries:
  • Take small portions of the meat mixture and roll them into log-like shapes (similar to fries). You can make them as thick or thin as you like, but thinner fries will cook faster.
  • Place the meat fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  1. Brush with Oil: Lightly brush the meat fries with olive oil to help them crisp up in the oven.
  2. Bake: Bake the meat fries in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even cooking. Bake until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  3. Optional – Add Cheese: If you’d like cheesy meat fries, sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the fries during the last 5 minutes of baking.
  4. Serve: Once cooked, remove the meat cookie fries from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces, like ketchup, BBQ sauce, or a spicy aioli.

Enjoy your savory “meat cookie fries“!
